Hancock County unemployment climbs to 5.7% | News
FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) – Unemployment in Hancock County jumped to 5.7 percent in May, up from the 5.3 percent reported in April.
The county is just below the unemployment level it saw a year ago, which was 5.8 percent.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services estimates there are 37,700 employed Hancock County residents, with 2,300 still looking for work.
Despite the increase, Hancock County’s unemployment rate is below both the statewide and national averages. The state of Ohio saw 6.9 percent unemployment in May, below the national average of 7.6 percent.
